The Virtual Trapper Keeper
Remember the good ol' days of the Trapper Keeper? You'd show up for school with this big old velcro binder thing (most likely showcasing your favorite GI Joe, Barbie or Saved by the Bell character) and you'd be ready for a promising new school year full of organized note-taking! If you're anything like me, the note-taking quickly became disorganized and the Trapper Keeper ended up being a paper weight. Whether it lasts or not, it's a good idea to set up an organizational system to keep your hits4pay e-mails sorted. Your Inbox will become your Virtual Trapper Keeper!
When you sign up for hits4pay, I recommend doing so with a newly created e-mail address. (G-mail is an easy one to sign up for.) That way, you won't have to worry about sifting through all your personal e-mails mixed in with your hits4pay-related e-mails. (If you've already signed up under your personal e-mail...no worries! You can just create a new e-mail account and then change your e-mail address with hits4pay.)
Once you've got your new account and it's set up to receive e-mails from hits4pay (find out more about whitelisting here), you'll want to create some "sticky tabs" in your "Trapper Keeper." Most web-based e-mails allow you to create folders or labels of some kind to sort your e-mail. Some of the folders I've created include "Referrals", "Letters" and "General". My referrals folder contains all the e-mails I've received saying I've signed someone up. My letters folder has different e-mails that I send out, such as my invitation letter, welcome letter and sample ad posts. My general folder is for anything related to hits4pay, such as my account information, my account approval e-mail, etc. Obviously, you can set your e-mail preferences to however you'd like. I prefer to get everything in my Inbox, and then sort it myself. But if you prefer, you can filter e-mails directly into certain folders.
Once you start referring people, you'll get a lot of e-mails, and it will make your life much easier if you keep your Inbox organized. You'll be able to find referrals names and e-mails more quickly, as well as keep better track of your correspondence with your referrals. (A key step, by the way, to making money with hits4pay.)
So get that Virtual Trapper Keeper set up, and try not to be like me in 4th grade and let all your hard organizational work slip away! Now if I could only figure out how to get that picture of Kelly Kapowski and Zack Morris into my Inbox!

Tip #5: STICK WITH IT!
I can't stress enough how important this tip is. Hits4Pay is like anything in life - the more you do it, the more successful you will be. I know there are a lot of people out there looking for that "get rick quick" scheme on the internet. I don't think that exists. I think that any legitimate way to make money online involves time, effort and PATIENCE!
My patience was definitely tested when I first signed up for hits4pay. It took nearly 36 hours for my account to be approved, and then I waited close to 2 more days before I even got a paid e-mail to read. There were definitely some reasons to just give it up and look for the next online program to try. When I signed up, I was really excited with the concept and was looking forward to seeing the dollars roll in. But here I was 4 days into it, and I had amassed a whopping 4 cents! (Not including the $10.00 sign up bonus)
Luckily, the person who referred me was very helpful and told me to be patient. The e-mails will keep coming, slowly but surely, but once you build your referral list, hits4pay will really pay off! So...I stuck with it. I kept advertising and promoting my referral link. I kept sending out welcome letters to referrals to help them get started. And soon enough, it started to work. I was ecstatic the first time I saw one of my referrals had read an e-mail, and I had made $.01 in my sleep! 1 cent. 1 little cent. Hits4Pay: Tip #4
(This is the fourth post of a series entitled "Top 5 Tips for Making Money with Hits4Pay." Click here to view the first, second or third posts.)
Tip #4: GET REFERRALS!
So you signed up, you've picked the right categories, done some research and hopefully have seen a couple e-mails come in. But when you look at your balance, it reads "Current Balance: $0.04." That can be a little bit discouraging. How are you ever going to pay your monthly cell phone bill making 4 extra cents a day? The answer can be summed up in one word - REFERRALS!
The best way to explain how referrals work is to show you some hypothetical numbers, and then you can actually SEE the difference. Remember that you are paid $.02 for every e-mail you read, $.01 for every e-mail a referral reads, and $.01 for every e-mail a referral's referral reads.
Here's an example:
You have 0 referrals. You read 5 e-mails a day for 5 days.
5 (e-mails) x .02 = .10 ...x 5 (days) = .50
You will make $.50 that week.
You have 5 referrals. You read 5 e-mails, each referral reads 5 e-mails for 5 days.
5 (e-mails) x .02 = .10 ...x 5 (days) = .50
5 (referrals) x 5 (e-mails) x .01 = .25 ...x 5 (days) = 1.25
You will make $1.75 that week.
You have 5 referrals, who each have 5 referrals. You read 5 e-mails, all referrals read 5 for 5 days.
5 (e-mails) x .02 = .10 ...x 5 (days) = .50
5 (referrals) x 5 (e-mails) x .01 = .25 ...x 5 (days) = 1.25

So how do you get those referrals? When I signed up for hits4pay, I thought to myself, "I only know maybe like 5-10 other people who would want to do this." Then, I realized I didn't have to know them personally, I just had to make contact with them on the internet! There are thousands and thousands of people out there who are looking for a legitimate way to earn some extra cash out there. There are lots of ways to reach them, including websites, blogging, e-mails, and classified ads. This is where your research will come in handy. Find out the best (and FREE) ways to start a website. Google Sites is a good one. There are plenty of free blog sites available, such as Google's Blogger.com. You can e-mail everyone you know, and also sign up for free sites that will send out e-mails to subscribers. Also, do a google search for "free classified ad posting" and you will find a plethora of sites to choose from. As a benefit of signing up, I always send my referrals a list of my favorite sites and examples of various promotional materials. This way, I can be sure that the people I refer are also on the right track to success with hits4pay.

As is the case with any business endeavor, you should always research the subject and make sure you are aware of the best ways to succeed. Since you're reading this blog, chances are, you're already doing your research. So let me give you some tips on finding the best information available.
First things first...google "hits4pay." This will give you over 100,000 resources to peruse. I found it helpful to read other people's blogs, look through different forums, and read ezine articles about hits4pay. There a lot of people out there who share their experiences, and that's the most useful stuff for me. Real people, just like you or me, who were looking for ways to make money online and they found hits4pay.
Next, in anticipation of Tip #4 (GET REFERRALS)...google something like "promoting your website for free" or "free ad posting." This will give you lots of blogs and articles about getting your name out there. Plenty more information is to come in Part 4 of this series, but since you are in the researching stage now, I figured I'd give you a heads up to research that topic as well!

Once your account is approved, you will begin receiving e-mails from advertisers very soon. There is no way to ensure that you get lots of e-mails everyday. However, there are a few things you can to do help maximize your e-mails.
First, make sure your personal e-mail account is not blocking the e-mails from hits4pay, or putting them in your spam folder. There are many ways to do this, depending on your e-mail provider, but here is a good resource to find out how.
Next, choose the right interest categories. You must choose at least 10, but may choose up to 25 categories. My suggestion is to sign up for ALL 25! The more interests you have, theoretically, the more e-mails you should get. You don't really have to be interested in these topics. It will just tell advertisers that you are interested, so that you can read their ads and be on your way.
